Naruto Shippuuden Episode 115 Breakdown and Discussion: The Newest Team Member and a Walk to the Great Naruto Bridge

(Grrrrr.  My apologies for the delays as there have been MANY technical difficulties.  So much for my attempts at being clever.)

Well, well well.  This is what you guys have wanted for soooooooo long:  the start Sasuke’s attempts at “team-building.”  And, boy, does he get an interesting team member – and an interesting trip down memory lane at the same time!

This is Penny (TsunadesTwin) with this week’s Naruto anime breakdown for episode 115, “Zabuza’s Sword.”  Yes, as you might have guessed, we re-visit the Land of Waves arc in this episode.  Our old friends Tazuna and Inari are mentioned but not seen.  And, yet again, we have filler material mixed in with canon manga material.  Seems to be a fairly constant pattern now.  You may wonder why this is.  Sure, its to make things more entertaining (supposedly).  However, if you’ve read the manga, there isn’t much to this part of the story – nor is it anywhere near as humorous.   I mean, a guy who has the appearance of a shark out of water who is known for hacking body parts off his victims can’t be what you’d consider to be funny.  Especially at first when Sasuke frees him from the Shark Tank at the Orochimaru Aquarium.  For a new team member, Suigetsu thinks he has to put Sasuke in his place.  Well…it isn’t how he had hoped it would be.

See this loaded gu...uh, finger? I'm not afraid to use it. Wait...that came out very badly, didn't it?

Despite that rather ominous beginning, Suigetsu ends up being hilarious.  It is an interesting pairing:  Sasuke and Suigetsu.  Introvert and Extrovert.  Talkative and Silent.  Loud versus Quiet.  Suigetsu, the extroverted chatterbox and Sasuke, the “strong and silent” type.  Then there is the attractiveness factor:  the obvious ladies man and the, ahem, shark.     Add the emo factor – Sasuke being the brooding type and Suigetsu being the “If you piss me off, I’ll turn you into a garden salad” type.   Personally, I’ve never been into the strong, silent, brooding type and I don’t care what their physical features are.  I’m definitely not into sharkskin du jour, either.   Give me a guy who can talk to me (nicely), is kind, considerate and…uh, normal (whatever the hell that is).

Ladies! Ladies! Trust me, that Uchiha guy is NOTHING to squeal about.

Sasuke never cracks a smile – NEVER.  C’mon!   There must be something humorous.  There must be something worth getting emotional about.  Geez!  At least your partner in crime talks, walks (but not without exhausting himself), and even gives us some maniacal laughter.  It’s one thing to have a dry wit and all but to not show emotion? Oh, Puhhhlease!

Not only does Sasuke get to the Great Naruto Bridge, he thinks of Tazuna and Inari and has to see them – only to have them not be there.   One thing I noted:  Sasuke never said anything about who killed Zabuza – and, as we Naruto fans know, it wasn’t him (it was an angry mob that Gato gathered that hastened his death – only after a nasty battle with Kakashi).

Why are they in the Land of Waves?  Well, Suigetsu thinks he’s entitled to Zabuza’s Executioner’s blade (known as the Kubikiri Hōchō) only to find that it has been pilfered from the grave site.  He won’t join Sasuke and his ragtag band of thieves until he gets it.  Suigetsu, determined to get this monster of a sword – one that he has trouble carrying due to being freed from the Orochimaru Aquarium Shark Tank – says Sasuke must help him get the sword, then he will join him.   Gee, isn’t this a match made in heaven?

They find that the blade is now in the possession of a man named Tenzen Daikoku, a nice guy known for his rather illegal activities.   Oooooo, ahhhhhh!  Seems Sasuke and Suigetsu sure can pick ’em!  For a change, we see Sasuke in a bit of a humorous mood (about damn time!) – he sets up a test for Suigetsu in the form of a wager:  He must infiltrate Tenzen’s castle without killing any of the thugs and guards.  That’s tough test to pass for a shark known for killing.  But, he passes the test beautifully with very little effort – and to Sasuke’s satisfaction.

Ok, Suigetsu. You now work for a guy whose humor consists of giving rather grueling tests/wagers. Hmmm...personally, I'd pass on the job offer.

Upon arriving inside the castle, they meet an irate Tenzen Daikoku who then calls on another thug to eliminate Suigetsu.  However, all find out that he has a rather special ability.

Do you have days where you feel nothing is going right? Well, apparently, Suigetsu has a way around that problem.

After Suigetsu starts a rather nasty demolition project at the castle – thanks to his rather large Genju blade that cuts through anything – the two make their rather casual exit. Suigetsu then decides to join Sasuke on his “quest,” whatever it is, only to find out he won’t know about it until the other two have been assembled.  Leaves me wondering if Suigetsu is thinking, “What the hell did I get myself into?”

In the end (no pun intended given all we see is her ass), we get a sneak preview of who comes next:  the uber-PMS, slutty dressed (extremely short shorts and hip-wader length tights/boots) bitch, Karin, Orochimaru’s assistant…

In the end we have Karin's a**....uh, Karin. Yeah, that's it. *Ahem!*

  2. great breakdown as usual hahaa gotta love karin ass pic “want to touch the hinny can’t touch the hinny” i hope the move is going ok and you have found a place to settle for a while. Man sasuke is great in this episode he is such a mystery even like thinking about whats going on in the manga then coming and watching this as well it’s like what the hell is he the only thing i can come up with is an anti hero but that doesn’t feel quite right. I am so happy they are doing kakashi’s gaiden i was really starting to think they wouldn’t do it which would have sucked it adds so much to the man behind the mask.

  3. a great review as always penny =)
