Naruto Shippuuden Episode 117 Breakdown and Discussion: The Monster of the Tower

The monster known as Juugo

A woman….no, a man….no, a woman….no, a man….no, a woman….no, a man – BINGO!  You have seen the entire episode of Naruto Shippuuden for this week.  Trust me, I’m not kidding.

This is Penny (Tsunades Twin) with the weekly Naruto Shippuuden anime breakdown and it was such a sleeper!  Zzzzzzzzz…I expected far more than what I got.  It’s like seeing a piece of chocolate only to find out that it was baking chocolate…like eating a great chinese dish only to find out it has octopus in it (sorry, I’m not into seafood).  You get the idea.   Man!  What a ripoff!!

Ok, so off we go to the Northern Hideout.  It’s a not a place for the faint of heart – or for those without any type of blade.  Imagine that every single inmate turns into something straight out of your worst nightmares.  Ewwwwwww.   Actually, these “inmates” were Oro’s test subjects.  What would result of Oro’s cruel “tinkering” is a bunch of inmates who would turn into monsters that had one desire:  to kill.   Karin tries her best to warn her fledgling “team” about its horrors but to no avail – or it was merely too late.

Meanwhile, Suigetsu takes a water break during this little pow-wow.  Get used to it – he takes a lot of them.

Little does our ragtag bunch of thieves realize that the Northern Hideout is in the midst of turmoil.  Seems news of Oro’s death has reached this rather dark and ominous place and you have inmates turning into monsters; one in particular (no, it isn’t Jugo – he’s the one most feared and is under multiple locks and carries a ball and chain) is on a rampage determined to get out.  He’s managed to brutally murder the guards of the tower.

a little overdone, no?

a little overdone, no?

The irony of Jugo is this:  he cannot control his rampages.  He has no desire to kill anyone.  In his past, there was only one person who could help him control his murderous rampages – Kimimaro.  Now that Kimimaro is gone, Jugo fluctuates in his stages with no sense of control.  In fact, Jugo is not only isolated from everyone and everything – he’s lonely.

Poor monster...:(

Suigetsu thinks he can handle them all with Zabuza’s Sword.  Karin tells him to “get real.”  Jugo has the ability to change states at will – he’d turn from a docile lamb to a killing machine.  Needless to say, Oro wanted to copy it into other people, hence the inmates at the asylum known as the Northern Hideout.  And, yes, it is the same “curse mark” that Sasuke bears.

>_>...

>_>...

Meanwhile, on a lighter note, Naruto and Sakura have been personally summoned by Tsunade – only to have Naruto sleeping in on his day off.   Hey, it’s what I’d do if I had a day off!  Sleep in, eat breakfast/lunch late, hang out in my PJs…what’s wrong with that?

talk about a bad hair day...

But, apparently, Tsunade isn’t happy to see how late the two arrive.  Damn it!  No one interferes with MY day off!  I don’t care if they are Hokage or God.  What makes things worse is that Naruto and Jiraiya have a rather humorous reunion.  Naruto now wants to show off to his Master his new collaboration jutsu with the toads – only to get the infamous beating from Tsunade.  But, eventually, the two get the news that Sasuke killed Orochimaru.

future couple?...course not >_>

Then Naruto gets the bad news – Sasuke ain’t comin’ back anytime soon…

At the Northern Hideout, Sasuke and company encounter the jailhouse riot amongst a bunch of monsters.  All easily get inside to locate Jugo.  Karin takes this inopportune time to go into her uber-PMS state and sends Suigetsu on a wild goose chase to locate Jugo’s cell once she finds the keys.

Sakura's got some competition...

Meanwhile, Jugo is still having that debate with himself – this time, he’s in his curse mark form.  A woman…no, a man…a woman…no, a man…then he decides on a woman…

…only to have Sasuke and Karin be just on the other side of the door…

You go in first.

You go in first.

The locks begin to be activate by the keys and Jugo prepares himself for attack.  Um, Sasuke?  Karin?  You sure you really want this guy?  I mean, how much do you want this guy as a teammate when he can easily kill you both?!?  Then, as the door opens…he wants to kill a man and Sasuke opens the door.  Somehow, I don’t think Sasuke is thinking he won the Powerball.

Let me stand here while a while man charges at me...

Suigetsu is still lost in this hellhole of a dungeon, Karin is standing outside waiting for Sasuke to return as a sirloin steak and Sasuke is now Jugo’s prize toy to play with…until Jugo discovers that Sasuke has the same curse mark as his own.

Half man, half god...half possible centaur

Half man, half god...half possible centaur

And, all Sasuke wants is to talk to Jugo?!? Are you insane?!?  Oh well, I guess we’ll find out next time just what Sasuke wants to talk about…

  1. uno again?

  2. It seemed to me that you had to play the suspense part to truly understand Jugo’s character. Especially the constant internal conflict with whether he wants to kill and, once he decides he will kill, who and how.

Now, can we finally get to Sasuke’s goal already?

  3. So to sum it up Juugo is a crazy serial killer with a double personality. I would think that they would have left us with a better episode then this. The inclusion of Naruto was pure filler. Kinda funny 🙂 but complete filler. I’m still looking forward to Kakashi’s Gaiden that should be awesome.

  4. yeah! SAS is rock!!!
    this episode is really good….

  5. Naruto find Sasuke, and Sasuke find Itachi
the next episode ‘ ll very great

  6. I think Karin looks like Grell Sutcliff from Kuroshitsuji. I also say Karin is just a bitch that decided to join Sasuke cause shes SO freakin obssed with him and doesn’t even care he wants to kill his own brother.
    I miss Uncle Itachi….. Y.Y

  7. This episode is great! Looks like the next episode is something to look forward to.
